这一张唱片开始于一个电话。

1984年圣诞，在看非洲饥饿现状电视报道的Harry Belafonte亨瑞.贝拉方特打了第一个电话，

电话打给了Quincy Jones昆西·琼斯、Michael Jackson迈克尔. 杰克逊，

而后Lionel Richie莱昂纳尔.里奇、Stevie Wonder史提夫·汪达，……

USA for Africa（United Support of Artists for Africa）由此结成，

1985年1月28日，洛杉矶，迈克尔·杰克逊和莱昂纳尔·里奇共同作词作曲，由美国45位歌星联合演唱，昆西·琼斯制作、指挥，为救援非洲饥民而义卖的唱片《天下一家》(We Are The World)诞生了。
